Occlusal guard is a removable dental device that fits over the teeth. It protects the teeth and prevents deterioration caused by grinding and clenching during the night (the medical term for which is bruxism*).

*Bruxism is the involuntary activity of clenching or grinding the teeth performed by the muscles of mastication, whether awake or asleep. It affects both men and women and has no specific cause, but studies indicate that bruxism is related to stress and anxiety.
